The four Religious Communities of the Anglican Church of Melanesia celebrated their religious life Sunday on Sunday the 10th this month.
The event was held at the Melanesian Brotherhood Head Quarter, Tabalia west of Honiara.
More than a hundred members of the four communities manage to attend the event. The event begun with teachings led by Bishop Michael Tavoa of Bishop Patterson Theological College, Kohimarama on Thursday night followed by other religious activities on Saturday and concluded with church service, feasting and sporting activities on Sunday.
Religious life Sunday in the Church of Melanesia is a special Sunday set aside for the four religious communities namely; the Melanesian Brotherhood, Community of the Sisters of Melanesia, Saint San Franciscan Brothers and the Community of the Sisters of the Church, to come together and share God’s word through sharing, praying, singing, testimonies and drama. It is also a time to encourage each other in their mission and ministry.
Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia the Most Rev. David Vunagi reminds the members of the four religious orders to spend more time in prayer, meditation and fasting as the only source to deepen and strengthen ones spiritual growth for the service of God.
“We must always pray and ask God to help us stay awake each moment so that we will not miss out on important things that comes from God and people”, Archbishop Vunagi said.
“It is the temptation of flesh that is very challenging” he continues.
He calls on all members of the four religious communities to respect their vows. Vows or Promises helps us remain faithful in the mission of Christ and to honor the Mission statement of the Church.
Religious life Sunday is an annual event celebrated early each year as they prepare to carry out their duties.
Minister General of the community of the Saint San Franciscan Brothers, Brother Clifton on behalf of the four religious communities thank the Archbishop David Vunagi and the Church of Melanesia for continuous support rendered towards the work and ministry of the four religious communities.
